Former Valley High basketball standout Alexis Payne returned to the area last week with her team, the University of Rio Grande. Payne, a freshman, scored 11 points and grabbed eight rebounds as Rio Grande (8-2) secured an 89-69 victory over host WVU Tech. The Golden Bears (2-7) were led by Nia Nolan’s 21 points.
