On Saturday, Fayette County will grow by the tens of thousands as Bridge Day™ 2013 is scheduled on and near the New River Gorge Bridge. Always held on the third Saturday of October by state decree, the festival becomes the world’s largest legal BASE jump as thrill-seekers from around the world visit Fayette County for the excitement of throwing themselves 876 feet into the New River Gorge. BASE is an acronym for Buildings Antenna Span Earth, the objects from which the parachutists jump. For much more on the state’s largest one-day festival, see the special tabloid in Thursday’s edition of The Fayette Tribune. Bridge Day is an official trademark of the Bridge Day Commission.
