4-C EDA to receive $95k business grant

MORGANTOWN — State Director Rick Rice announced Thursday that Rural Development approved a Rural Business Enterprise Grant in the amount of $95,000 for 4-C Economic Development Authority in Raleigh County.

Rural Development funds will be used for a revolving loan fund to encourage private sector job creation or retention and contribute to the economic development and stabilization of the 4-C region of Fayette, Nicholas, Raleigh and Summers counties.

“This project is expected to create five jobs, save 10 jobs, and assist one business,” Rice said. “This is a fine example of Rural Development’s commitment to the future of our rural communities.”

At the same time, Rice revealed that a $126,261 RBEG will be awarded to Mountain CAP of West Virginia, Inc. in Upshur County.

The funds will be used for technical assistance and entrepreneurial training designed to assist with business startup and expansion in a service area which includes Braxton, Clay, Gilmer, Webster, Barbour, Fayette, Nicholas, Roane, Upshur, Randolph and Lewis counties.

“This project is expected to create 27 jobs, save 45 jobs, and assist nine businesses,” said Rice. “The project exemplifies Rural Development’s mission: to increase economic opportunity and improve the quality of life for all rural Americans.”
