Meetings

FARSE — The Fayette Association of Retired School Employees (FARSE) meets each fourth Saturday of the month at 10:30 a.m. at the Whitewater Bar and Grill in Quality Inn, Fayetteville. Meeting dates are: March 22, April 26, and May 17 (changes are made only when the date interferes with a holiday weekend). All retired school employees are invited to join the group, and those who are relatives or friends of a retired school employee are welcomed as associate members. Board of Education — The Fayette County Board of Education will convene as follows: regular meeting — Monday, Dec. 2, BOE office, 6 p.m.; proposed meeting for the proposed closure of Gatewood Elementary School — Thursday, Dec. 12, Fayetteville High School auditorium, 5 p.m. (alternate date — Monday, Dec. 16, Fayetteville High School auditorium, 5 p.m.).

Fayette County Commission — The Fayette County Commission will meet at 9 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 6; Wednesday, Dec. 18; Friday, Jan. 3; Friday, Jan. 17; and Friday, Jan. 31 in the Fayette County Commission chambers of the Fayette County Courthouse. The meetings are open to the public.

Oak Hill Lions Club — The Oak Hill Lions Club meets each Thursday at 6 p.m. at Dory’s Grille, Holiday Lodge, Oak Hill. For more information, call 304-574-2836.

Oak Hill Rotary — The Oak Hill Rotary Club meets every Tuesday at noon at the LifeBridge Fellowship Hall in East End Oak Hill. Call 304-640-1497 for more information. The first Tuesday of each month is Business Meeting day, and each following Tuesday has a member program scheduled, with guests invited to visit.

Southern Cross Chapter, UDC — The Southern Cross Chapter #2001 of the United Daughters of the Confederacy meets the third Saturday of each month at noon for luncheon and meeting, alternating between Oak Hill and Beckley. Brain Injury Support Group — The Brain Injury Support Group of Raleigh County/Southern West Virginia meets on the third Tuesday of each month, from 6 to 8 p.m. at 203 Grey Flats Road, Beckley. The meeting will be held on the second floor of the ResCare Beckley Agency (behind the Raleigh County Armory/Civic Center and beside the DMV). Multiple Sclerosis Support Group — A Multiple Sclerosis support group meets the second Monday of each month at 6 p.m. at The Place on Temple View Drive, Beckley, behind the United Methodist Temple. For more information, call Jane Trail at 304-573-0346.

Cancer Support Group — The Fayette County Cancer Support Group meets the first Monday of each month (excluding holidays, then meetings are held the second Monday) from 6 to 8 p.m. at The Summit at Hidden Valley, 438 23rd Street, Oak Hill (next to Hidden Valley Nursing Home). Vandalia Garden Club — Vandalia Garden Club meets the fourth Tuesday of the month from March through November at the Fayetteville United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall at 12:30 p.m. Prospective members are welcome.

Nar-Anon Support Meeting — Nar-Anon support meetings are held each Friday at 6:30 p.m. at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church in Oak Hill. For more info, call Vicki at 304-222-0284.

Quota Club — Quota Club International of Plateau Area meets the third Thursday of each month for a business luncheon at Holiday Inn, Oak Hill, at 12 noon. Quota Club welcomes new members. For membership information, call 304-469-3618.

Nimble Thimbles — Nimble Thimbles Quilt Guild meets from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. the second Tuesday every month at the American Legion in Fayetteville. Bring something to work on or show off.

Bridge Day Commission — The Bridge Day Commission meets the third Wednesday of every month at 1:30 p.m. in the county commission room at the Fayette County Courthouse. The meetings are open to the public. For more information, call Cindy at 304-465-5617.

Fayetteville Junior Women — The Fayetteville Junior Women’s Club meets on the first Tuesday of every month.

AIM — Ansted Improvement Motivators Inc. meets the fourth Thursday of each month at 7 p.m. at the Ansted Methodist Church. Teenagers to golden-agers are invited to join. Do you have a couple of hours to donate to help your town? Join the hard-working people who are putting Ansted on the map as a wonderful place to live, play and visit. This can only be done with your help.

American Legion — LaFayette Post 149 of the American Legion meets each third Monday at 7:30 p.m. and hosts Bingo every Tuesday and Saturday at 5 p.m.

PAN — Plateau Action Network (PAN) meets the first Tuesday of each month at 6 p.m. at Gregg Studio, 104 Fayette Ave., Fayetteville (left side of the Public Defenders building). MH Housing Authority Board — The regular meeting of the Board of Commissioners of the Mount Hope Housing Authority is scheduled the third Tuesday of every month at 2 p.m. in the community room, Midtown Terrace, Mount Hope. Business discussed will include approval of minutes, approval of disbursements, and whatever business comes before the board.

Fayette County Chamber — The Fayette County Chamber board of directors meets on the fourth Thursday of every month at 4 p.m. For meeting locations, call 304-465-5617.

Scouts — The Oak Hill Boy Scout Troop 1335 meets each Monday at 7 p.m. at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church. New members are being accepted. For more information, contact Scoutmaster Randy Dolin at 304-465-5087.

Humane Society — The New River Humane Society holds its regular meetings the second Tuesday of each month at Los Vaqueros Restaurante, 2027 E. Main Street, Oak Hill, at 6:30 p.m. NRHS is a non-profit organization dedicated to the protection and welfare of animals. The public is welcome.
