Help offered for ACA enrollment

March 31 deadline to apply

March 31 is the final deadline to apply for private health insurance coverage through the Individual Marketplace created by the Affordable Care Act.

Uninsured individuals who have not signed up by this deadline will face a tax penalty of $95, or 1 percent of their income, on their 2014 tax returns, whichever is higher.

Additionally, these people will not be able to receive help lowering the costs of private health insurance, since they will have to go outside of the marketplace to enroll.

To make the process easier, New River Health Association is holding enrollment events in the coming weeks to help community members finalize their insurance plans.

Locally, aid will be available:

-- Saturday, March 8, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Oak Hill Public Library

-- Tuesday, March 18, 4 to 7 p.m., Oak Hill Public Library

Trained enrollment workers will be available to answer questions and walk people through the process from start to finish. Walk-ins are welcome, as are people who have had difficult experiences using the website in the past.

Counselors are also available by appointment at the New River Health locations in Fayetteville, Scarbro and Sophia.

For more information, or to set up a free private consultation, contact Juanita Martin at 304-465-2355 or e-mail healthcareinfo@nrhawv.org.
