NPS to sponsor blood drive

Want to be an instant hometown hero? Give blood and save a life. The National Park Service at New River Gorge National River is hosting an American Red Cross Blood Drive on Thursday, July 26, in the parking lot at the historic Glen Jean Bank (across from the post office and National Park Service headquarters) from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. for all members of the public. Blood donors may stop by at any time during the drive, or, to reserve a time slot, please call Robin Perry at 304-465-6503. Refreshments will be served; and this year, all presenting donors are eligible to win a 2011 Chevy Aveo and/or $500 in free gasoline.

The American Red Cross blood supply has reached emergency levels with 50,000 fewer donations than expected in June. This shortfall leaves the Red Cross with half the readily available blood products on hand now than this time last year.

Giving blood is simple and convenient. If you are interested in becoming a hometown hero, but have never donated blood before, you’ll find all the answers to your questions at the American Red Cross blood donation website: http://www.givelife.org.
