The Battle of the Banks to benefit Toys for Tots 2013

It’s the Battle of the Banks in southern West Virginia, as several local banks aim to raise more Christmas money for disadvantaged children during the holiday season.

United Bank, BB&T, City National, First Century Bank, First Community Bank, Peoples Bank, Pioneer Community Bank and Whitesville State Bank will be selling train cutouts to raise money for children in Raleigh, Fayette, Wyoming, Nicholas and Webster counties, according to Jay Quesenberry, a spokesman for the project.

The bank that sells the most cutouts will become the 2013 Toys for Tots Battle of the Banks Champion and will get to keep a trophy until the 2014 Battle of the Banks.

Toys for Tots is a non-profit organization of the Marine Corps Toys for Tots Foundation. It is not affiliated with the independent and locally run Mac’s Toy Fund or Fayette County’s Fayette Toy Fund, New Haven Christmas Project or Christmas Cheer.

Quesenberry urged residents to stop in any bank to purchase a cutout to support Toys for Tots.

“All the money raised stays right here in southern West Virginia,” he said.
