Meetings

Fayetteville Town Council — The Fayetteville town council will meet tonight at 6 p.m. at Town Hall, 125 North Court Street. Following is the meeting’s agenda: call to order; read minutes from previous meeting; correct or approve minutes as read; review and approval of financial report; visitor’s agenda; old business — second reading Ordinance 2012-9 amending and adopting the ordinance relating to the Historical Review Board from 5 to 7 members (recorder), discuss and consider agreement with the Frontier Communications Company (recorder), discuss the Henry Street parking proposal (recorder), discuss and consider application by Charles and Sharon Morton Z-183-12-1 from Historic R-1 to Historic Planned Development (recorder), discuss and consider pay increase for position for assistant chief of police at $2 per hour from $15 per hour to $17 per hour (recorder); new business — consider and approve superintendent’s request for the purchase of a new snow plow for the Street Department (recorder), consider superintendent’s request for $1 pay increase for payroll clerk Heather Naylor from $9 per hour to $10 per hour (recorder), consider and discuss the request from Mark Hurley to remove dirt from the town of Fayetteville-owned property located next to the Lowe’s store (recorder), Mayor Akers’ recommendation to appoint Donald Beals and Catherine Saunders to the Planning and Zoning Board (recorder), discuss the West Virginia American Water Company’s water and sewer rate increase (recorder); reports from boards — Town Park Board, CVB report, Beautification Commission, Huse Park Commission, Planning Commission Board, School Building Committee, Police Department report, Fire Department report, Town Superintendent’s report; adjourn.

City of Oak Hill Structural Inspection Board — The City of Oak Hill’s Structural Inspection Board will meet Wednesday, Jan. 9 at 7:30 p.m. The meeting agenda is as follows: new business — John M. Zink Jr. property, located on the NW corner of School Street and Central Avenue. The building is situated on lots #17 and 18 in map book 2, at page 140.

Fayette County Commission — The Fayette County Commission will meet Friday, Jan. 4 (regular session) and Friday Jan. 18 (regular session),  at 9 a.m. in the Fayette County Commission chambers of the Fayette County Courthouse. The meetings are open to the public.

Board of Education — The Fayette County Board of Education will meet as follows: Tuesday, Jan. 8 — regular meeting, BOE office, Fayetteville, 6 p.m.; and Tuesday, Jan. 22 — BOE office, Fayetteville, 6 p.m.

SCD Board — The Southern Conservation District board will hold its monthly board meeting on Jan. 10 at the SCD Building, 463 Ragland Road, Beckley, at 9:45 a.m. Normal business will be conducted. The agenda will be posted at the SCD office. For more, please call 304-253-0261.

Fayette Association of Retired School Employees — FARSE meets the fourth Saturday of each month at 10:30 a.m. at the Quality Inn, Fayetteville. Current meetings are scheduled for March 23, April 27, and May 18. Changes are made only when the date interferes with a holiday weekend. Oak Hill Lions Club — The Oak Hill Lions Club meets each Thursday at 6 p.m. at the Scout Cabin, City Park, Oak Hill. For more information, call 304-574-2836.

Oak Hill Rotary — The Oak Hill Rotary Club meets every Tuesday at noon at the LifeBridge Fellowship Hall in East End Oak Hill. Call 304-640-1497 for more information. The first Tuesday of each month is Business Meeting day, and each following Tuesday has a member program scheduled, with guests invited to visit.

Southern Cross Chapter, UDC — The Southern Cross Chapter #2001 of the United Daughters of the Confederacy meets the third Saturday of each month at noon for luncheon and meeting, alternating between Oak Hill and Beckley. Plateau Amateur Radio Hamfest — The Plateau Amateur Radio Hamfest is set for Feb.16 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Lewis Community Foundation’s Christian Community Center, 469 Central Avenue, Oak Hill. Dessert Recipes Sought — Recipe submission and sponsorship commitment deadline for “The Family Table Vol. II - Just Desserts” cookbook has been extended until Jan. 7 to give interested persons and businesses the opportunity to still be involved. Since the last two weeks of December are filled with family festivities, last minute shopping, travel and more, Women's Resource Center wanted to make sure that everyone who had been too busy amidst the holiday hustle and bustle, still had the chance to submit their favorite recipe(s) or to be a project sponsor. Places to Go/Things to Do

Gospel Sing — The 8th annual New Year Community Benefit Gospel Sing will be held Saturday, Jan. 5, beginning at 6 p.m. in the Summersville Baptist Church, Main Street, Summersville. Although admission is free, everyone is requested to please bring a non-perishable food item that will be donated to The Salvation Army food pantry in Summersville. Also, a love offering will be received and donated to the Richwood and Summersville Ministerial Associations’ community needs funds. Singing God’s praises will be Dana Thomas and Jennifer Gatewood from Summersville, Hands of Worship from Canvas, The Pomeroys from Richwood, the Deal Brothers from Craigsville and the Faith Harmony Boys from Charleston. The 8th annual New Year Community Benefit Gospel Sing is presented by REACH By FAITH Ministries.
