Fayette schedules kindergarten, pre-K registration, screenings

— Jean M. Cavalier, director of elementary/assessment for Fayette County Schools, has announced the schedule for kindergarten registration and preventive health screenings, along with pre-kindergarten registration and developmental screening.

In the Plateau area, 2013-2014 kindergarten registration and preventive health/well-child screenings have been scheduled for the following dates and times.

-- March 8, 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. — Midland Trail High School: For students who will attend Ansted Elementary, Divide Elementary, or Meadow Bridge Elementary

-- March 15, 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. — National Guard Armory in Glen Jean: For students who will attend Fayetteville Elementary, Gatewood Elementary, Mt. Hope Elementary, or Rosedale Elementary

-- March 22, 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. — National Guard Armory in Glen Jean: For students who will attend New River Elementary

Current kindergarten students will not report to school on their school’s enrollment date.

Children must be five years old on or before Sept. 1, 2013, in order to register to attend kindergarten for the 2013-2014 school term.

The following information must be taken to the appropriate attendance zone registration site:

-- Certified birth certificate (certified from the State Registrar: West Virginia Department of Vital Statistics; forms will be available at all registration sites to request certified West Virginia Birth Certificates; please bring a check or money order for $12 payable to the West Virginia Department of Vital Statistics)

-- Immunization records

-- Child’s social security card

-- Proof of preventive health screen/well-child exam in last 12 months (well-child exams available on-site for children in need of this exam)

-- Proof of residency (utility bill)

In conjunction with kindergarten registration, Linda Palenchar, director of special education for Fayette County Schools announced that pre-kindergarten registration and developmental screening will be held at above locations the same dates and hours for children ages 3 to 5.

This screening will provide parents with information related to their child’s development in the areas of hearing, vision, speech, language, fine and gross motor skills, social/emotional and cognition. Developmental screening is required of all local educational agencies to ensure that all children exhibiting delays are identified and referred to the proper agencies.

Children must be four years old on or before Sept. 1, 2013, in order to register to attend Pre-K for the 2013-2014 school term.

The following information must be taken to the appropriate attendance zone registration site:

-- Certified birth certificate (certified from the State Registrar: West Virginia Department of Vital Statistics; forms will be available at all registration sites to request certified West Virginia Birth Certificates; please bring a check or money order for $12 payable to the West Virginia Department of Vital Statistics)

-- Immunization records

-- Child’s social security card

-- Proof of preventive health screen/well-child exam in last 12 months (well-child exams available on-site for children in need of this exam)

-- Income identification (W-2, check stub, SSI, etc.)
