Two charged in alleged attack at Mount Hope apartments

By Sarah Plummer

— Two men have been arrested in a March 20 battery on North Pax Avenue near Stadium Terrace Apartments in Mount Hope.

Lt. Mark Larkin, of the Mount Hope Police Department, said Joseph Richard Jiles, 24, of Mount Hope, and Jimmie Earl Johnson, 23, of Mount Hope, attacked victim Matthew Ryan Parsons, 20, while he was visiting a female friend.

While walking down the sidewalk, Parsons and the woman were confronted by the two suspects. Police say Jiles allegedly struck him in the face. Parsons fell to the ground where, according to police, Johnson allegedly struck him several times in the face and took his wallet.

The two suspects fled on foot and Parsons sought medical treatment for face wounds.

Larkin said after an investigation, Jiles and Johnson were apprehended by the Mount Hope Police and the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office.

Both suspects were arraigned before Magistrate Leonard Bickford.

Jiles was charged with one count of battery and posted a $500 bond.

Johnson was charged with one count of battery and non-aggravated robbery and has been remanded to Southern Regional Jail on $30,000 bond.
