Newspapers are learning tools

— (Editor’s note: The following learning activities using the newspaper are geared toward middle school aged children for help with language arts.)

— Underline the main idea in a feature story and then outline the story.

— Take a picture from the newspaper and remove the explanation beneath it. Write a creative story telling what you think could be going on in the picture.

— After listening to your teacher read a news story, list as many facts as you can remember.

— Make a collage from newspaper pictures and words to show what different things happened in a book you read for class.

— After reading a news article, draw a picture of what happened.
