James Compton, formerly of Pineville, Ky., and Bertha (Bowyer) Compton, formerly of Oak Hill, now of Ft. Wayne, Ind., celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary on June 1.
They married in 1947 after meeting on a bus, at which time two young men fought over who was going to get the open seat next to the pretty girl. James won, and here they are together 66 years later.
James (Bennie) retired after over 50 years with Bartlett Tree Experts, and Bertha retired after working at St. Anne Home for over 20 years. They moved to Ft. Wayne in 1963.
They have one son, Charles Akers (Claudia) of Franklin, Va.; three daughters, Anita Given (Herold) of Oak Hill, Bertha Watson (Junior) of Cambridge, Ohio, and Rona Morris (Tim) of Ft. Wayne. They share 11 grandchildren (one deceased), 14 great-grandchildren, three step-great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren, plus three step-great-great-grandchildren.
