Theatre West Virginia slates local auditions

If you’ve always wanted a chance to take the stage and show the world your talents, then Theatre West Virginia might have a spot for you.

Local auditions for TWV’s upcoming productions are scheduled for Saturday, March 30 from 12 noon to 4 p.m. at the Mabscott administrative offices.

TWV is looking for cast members for the acclaimed historical dramas, “Honey in the Rock” and “Hatfields and McCoys,” as well this summer’s two musical productions, “The Wizard of Oz” and “Rocket Boys the Musical.”

“Honey in the Rock” tells the story of West Virginia’s birth during the Civil War, while “Hatfields and McCoys” brings to life the famous feud between rival families in West Virginia and Kentucky. “Rocket Boys,” which had its world premiere with TWV in 2011, is based on West Virginia native Homer Hickam’s popular autobiographical book that was made into the movie, “October Sky.” And, of course, “The Wizard of Oz” is the classic tale of young Dorothy Gale’s amazing journey over the rainbow to a magical world of wizards and witches. TWV’s season runs June 11 through Aug. 25, with rehearsals beginning in May.

Those wishing to audition need to prepare 16 bars (30 seconds) of an up-tempo musical number and 16 bars of a ballad as well as a 1-minute contemporary monologue. Pre-recorded accompaniment is needed as there will not be an accompanist on site. A headshot and resume are also required.

Children ages 8 and up are encouraged to audition. If you don’t have a professional photo, a school photo is acceptable.

TWV’s offices are located at Spruce and Whitestick streets in Mabscott. Any further questions can be answered by calling Theatre West Virginia during the hours of 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, at 304-256-6800 or toll free at 800-666-9142.
