OAK HILL — Blue spruce has helped spruce up a recognizable sign outside the New River Gorge CVB/Fayette County Chamber of Commerce office on Oyler Avenue.

As the result of a recent landscaping project, the New River Gorge sign — done by sculptor Brian Yates last year — has taken on a more lively look.

“Sharon (executive director Cruikshank of the Chamber/CVB) asked for ways to accent the sign, and we tried to make it mirror the gorge but not hide the sign because it’s so pretty itself,” said David Laudig, of David’s Yards in Fayetteville, who is also a Lowe’s vendor and helped spearhead the project.

Lowe’s in Fayetteville donated blue spruce and other items necessary to perform landscaping around the sign, while Mike Gray Construction donated the stone used to anchor the landscaping.

“We really appreciate the partnership (of Lowe’s and David’s Yards and Mike Gray Construction),” said Cruikshank. “It really draws attention to us.

“It gives the illusion of the New River.”
