Rebbecca Morris was announced as the winner of the Appalachian Fiction Writing Competition award Sept. 28 at the 17th annual Appalachian Heritage Festival at Shepherd University. West Virginia native writer Gretchen Moran Laskas, the author of “The Miner’s Daughter” and “The Midwife’s Tale,” announced Morris as the first-place winner for her fiction story entitled “Folk Tune.”
Rebbecca is a native of Victor and a 2010 graduate of Midland Trail High School.
She is a junior English Literature major with a minor in Appalachian Studies at Shepherd University, Shepherdstown.
Rebbecca is the daughter of Greg and Connie Morris of Victor.
