Hunter addresses Ansted Garden Club

Members of the Ansted Garden Club welcomed Sherri Hunter, director of education for Raleigh County Solid Waste Authority, as guest speaker on Monday, Oct. 15, at the Church of the Redeemer Parish Hall.

Hunter showed step by step how the landfill is prepared prior to any trash being deposited. She encouraged everyone to join in “Butt Busters,” which involves reporting those who dispose of cigarette butts illegally. Cigarette filters take over 500 years to disintegrate.

She closed by showing several recycle projects, including crochet work with plastic bags and bread wrappers. Many kinds of light bulbs were made into ornaments. Everyone learned much and thoroughly enjoyed the program.

Following the business meeting, the group enjoyed refreshments and visiting with one another.
