Lack of pride in city too evident in Oak Hill

Oak Hill Moving Ahead purchased 25 “Home for the Holidays” banners for the City of Oak Hill. We paid $4,000 for them. They were heavy duty and beautifully constructed and gave a very festive face to Main Street for the Christmas season. I personally gave the Street Department manager a video, telling him how to hang the banners in a proper manner.

These banners were put up the first Christmas and never again. They were not put up correctly, and they blew and flapped in the wind.

For the past 5 years, I have asked where these banners were, as they have never been displayed again. I asked our council person to find out where they went, and today I was told that the city manager told her that they dry rotted.

The only way these well-constructed banners could have dry rotted is if they were thrown in a corner when they were taken down that first year. They neglected them instead of folding and storing them properly. I am very upset, as this is just another example of lack of pride in our city. While every city around us is growing, we are stagnating.

If you ask me, the only thing that is dry rotted in the city of Oak Hill is her archaic, self-seeking, uncaring and out-of-touch governing body.
