Strikes for Tykes scheduled

— New River Gorge Learning Co-op (NRGLC) invites community members to sign up for its first Strikes for Tykes Bowl-a-thon. The event will be held Jan. 19 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the White Oak Lanes in Oak Hill.

The event will benefit the New River Gorge Learning Co-op, a Montessori-based learning program for preschool and elementary-age children in Fayette County. The bowl-a-thon is the first-ever for NRGLC, which was founded in 2009. It is the kick off event for a capital campaign to raise money for a new building.

Registration is $30 per person and a team is comprised of six bowlers. Need a team? Register as a single bowler and be placed on a team.

Registration fee includes a groovy ’60s party including ’60s tunes, bowling, Pies & Pints pizza, drinks, an official Bowl-a-thon T-shirt, and more. Wearing ’60s costumes is encouraged.

Prizes will be raffled to individuals who gather donations of $100 or more, including adventure trips and gift cards. The individual who raises the most money in donations will be awarded an iPad Mini valued at more than $300.

Sponsors of the event include WELD; Pies and Pints; Rist Law Offices; Rist, Higgins, & Associates; Oak Hill Garbage; Dr. Karen Hultman; William A. Klenk D.D.S.; River Expeditions; New River Jet Boats; Oak Hill Rotary Club; Opossum Creek Retreat; King Coal Chevrolet; Gorman, Sheatsley, and Company L.C.; Tamarack; The Briarpatch/Mitchell Dech Tree Service; Oak Hill Rotary Club; New River Vision Center; Alloy Federal Credit Union; WV Parkway Authority; and the Town of Thurmond.
