Accelerated programs featured at open house

BECKLEY — New River Community and Technical College will host an open house on Wednesday and Thursday, Jan. 16 and 17, to give prospective students an opportunity to learn about two new accelerated programs for training office professionals.

The public is invited to visit the accelerated programs classroom in the Allied Health Education Center (adjacent to the main campus office building at 167 Dye Drive) between the hours of 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. to learn about the six-month Technical Office Procedures Skills Certificate program and the 11-month Associate Degree in Administrative Office Technology program.

“These programs are specifically designed for motivated students who want to further their education, but because of work, family or other responsibilities, cannot afford to spend multiple years going to class.  The accelerated program offers intensive four-day-a-week classes ranging from four to six hours a day,” explained Amanda Sue Sauchuck, visiting instructor and coordinator of the program.

The Technical Office Procedures and Skills Certificate program prepares students for entry-level positions in an office setting. It is a 30-credit-hour program that can seamlessly lead students in the Administrative Office Technology Degree program.

The Administrative Office Technology Program prepares graduates for positions as administrative assistants, secretaries, clerks and other office positions in business, industry, government and other professions. It is a 60-credit-hour program.

The programs, which currently are offered only at the Beckley Campus, will start later than New River’s spring semester start date of Jan. 14, so it is not too late to register. An interview is required prior to enrollment in this program. For more, contact Sauchuck at 304-929-5001.
