Community beautification workshop slated for Feb. 25

— Interested in beautifying your community? A free workshop on community beautification will be held at the next Fayette County Green Advisory Team meeting on Monday, Feb. 25, at 6 p.m. at the Fayetteville Pies and Pints. Tristan Cleveland, AmeriCorps VISTA with the New River Gorge Regional Development Authority, will present the newly-published beautification toolkit, which is an idea book for how to enhance the look of communities.

“The Toolkit has lots of great ideas to fit any budget or group capability — everything from removing defunct signage to planting a community gateway garden. If you want to make a change in your community, but aren’t sure where to start, this Toolkit will give you ideas,” says Cleveland.

Adam Hodges, WVSU extension agent in Fayette County, emphasizes the economic importance of community beautification. “This upcoming July we will be hosting the national Boy Scout Jamboree, and thousands of visitors from across the country are going to visit West Virginia, some of them for the first time. This is our chance to make a good first impression, so that they return as tourists or as business investors.”

Business owners, local officials, interested citizens or anyone else interested in making a change in their community is invited to attend this workshop.

The beautification toolkit is available for free online at For more information or to schedule a presentation at a group meeting, contact Cleveland at 304-465-3720 or
