Hummers and more hummers

— Ruby-throated hummingbirds, a summer favorite in the area, are the subject of the New River Hummingbird Festival slated for Aug. 23-25 at Hawks Nest State Park. For a weekend of great birding and gardening fun with hummingbirds, native plants, butterflies, birds of the Gorge, bird banding, presentations and demonstrations, join master bander and hummingbird expert Dr. Bill Hilton Jr., local gardening specialist Terri Johnson, and New River Birding & Nature Center staff to discover the ruby-throated hummingbirds feeding, nesting, migration, and behavior, and how to design a hummingbird habitat in your backyard, schoolyard or nature center. The New River Hummingbird Festival is a program of New River Birding & Nature Center located in Wolf Creek Park, born in 2010 of the internationally acclaimed annual New River Birding and Nature Festival.
