OAK HILL — Paul and Tyler Toburen, a Pennsylvania father and son, braved the snow and cold Thursday, March 4 to become the first commercial rafters of the 2010 season with ACE Adventure Resort.
Casey Barrows, nine-year rafting guide and director of group sales, was part of this inaugural trip. “I had never been on the New River when there was snow on the ground. This is why we were featured as North America’s Largest Adventure Resort on the Travel Channel. It was a great day and the guests loved it.”
Barrows also noted that the snow helped define some features of the old mining towns throughout the New River Gorge that aren’t visible during spring and summer.
Whitewater rafting season runs through mid-October with the Gauley Season.
