Coda musicians, faculty gather for reunion

BECKWITH — Forty-three young musicians and 16 Coda Mountain Academy faculty and staff gathered together in Beckwith vacation homes over the weekend for music, friends, fun and great food. Students at the first ever Coda Reunion represented four West Virginia counties, North Carolina, Ohio and Indiana. Coda Academy alumni joined with students from Coda Inspire, the new after-school program at Fayetteville High School.

Faculty who are graduates from top music schools and conservatories drove in at their own expense and volunteered their time for two days of Coda planning and three days of Coda Reunion with students.

Musical activities included improvisation classes for all instruments, private lessons, casual concerts, a talent show, an electronic looping workshop, an Alexander Technique workshop and specialized classes for woodwinds and guitars. Students also had hours of time to hang out with friends, play board games, shoot pool, jam with their instruments and voices or throw snowballs and roast marshmallows for s’mores at a bonfire in the snow.

“This was an extraordinary weekend for all,” said Esther

Morey, director. “There were many breakthroughs with the students as they gained confidence musically and socially. Students and faculty alike can’t wait for Coda Academy this summer!”

Ten Coda Inspire students from Fayetteville High School received scholarships from the Fayette County Ministerial Association and Coda Mountain Academy to the event which was sponsored solely by Coda Mountain Academy.

Coda believes the serious study of music develops valuable character traits and life skills that open the door for future pursuits in any field.

Coda offers two exciting summer programs for students of multiple skill levels and age. For more information on summer residential and day camps, contact Coda at codamountain.com, codamountain@gmail.com or call Ann Ramsey at 304-731-9613.
