An Oak Hill man and his brother were killed Saturday in Barboursville after their neighbor allegedly shot them because he said they were breaking into his outbuilding, according to reports from the Huntington Herald-Dispatch.
Carl Hopkins Jr. of Oak Hill and Garrick Hopkins of Milton were shot while looking at property Garrick had bought.
The suspect, 62-year-old Rodney Bruce Black, called 911 and told the dispatcher that he saw two men go into his outbuilding, so he shot them.
The Cabell County Sheriff’s Office told The Herald-Dispatch that the outbuilding actually belonged to Garrick Hopkins and he had recently bought the lot next to Black’s land. The sheriff says the outbuilding didn’t have anything inside it that belonged to Black.
The sheriff’s department searched the suspect’s house and took weapons and ammunition, according to the newspaper.
The bodies have been taken to the state Medical Examiner’s Office for autopsy.
Rodney Black was charged with two counts of first-degree murder and is lodged in Western Regional Jail awaiting further court action.
