Diabetes education class slated at VA

The Beckley Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Medical Center will provide veterans with the knowledge and skills to better manage their diabetes. The Rural Health Nurse Educators invite veterans to attend a group diabetes self-management series to be conducted at the Beckley VA Medical Center in the auditorium on July 26 at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. This educational series will be conducted every month for six months with each class lasting approximately one hour.

Topics covered include healthy eating, being active, more than monitoring your blood sugar, reducing your risk of diabetic complications, taking your medications appropriately, and learning to cope with the stress of having diabetes. Veterans will have the opportunity to share the challenges of managing diabetes with one another.

Veterans are invited to attend all six sessions which will enable them to better manage diabetes and allow them to achieve more positive results leading to improved overall health and wellness.

There is no charge for this educational series and veterans’ families are invited to attend as well.

Should you have any questions, please feel free to contact the Rural Health Nurse Educators at 304-255-2121, ext. 3228.
