WRC accepting recipes, sponsorships for cookbook

— In 2011, the fundraising committee for Women’s Resource Center decided to publish a cookbook as a fundraising project. They also wanted to convey a message of the importance of good family communication in health family relationships. Eating family meals together has been a proven way to improve communication between family members. For this same reason, the cookbook was entitled “The Family Table” and featured easy, complete meal plans that were submitted by the public.

Sponsorships in the cookbook covered printing costs so that 100 percent of proceeds from cookbook sales and the accompanying event, “The Family Table Cookoff,” benefited Women’s Resource Center and victims of domestic violence and sexual assault in Fayette, Nicholas, Raleigh and Summers counties.

“The Family Table” cookbook was so well received in the community that plans for another cookbook are under way. WRC is hoping “The Family Table Cookbook Volume II: Just Desserts” will prove even more successful than the first. But to make that happen, help is needed from the public.

Cookbook recipe submissions are free to the public. Please e-mail your dessert recipes to or mail to PO Box 1476, Beckley, WV 25802-1476, Attention: Cookbook. Certain recipes will be selected by a panel to compete in The Family Table Sweet Tooth Taste-off event to be held in February.

Individual and business sponsorships also are needed to offset printing costs. A $100 sponsorship includes a 5” x 2” advertisement in the cookbook. If you are interested in being a sponsor, please call Dee Sizemore at 304-255-2559 or e-mail

Cookbooks will be available for purchase in February at the cost of $10 each. All proceeds will benefit Women’s Resource Center and victims of domestic violence and sexual assault in Raleigh, Fayette, Nicholas and Summers counties.
