Summerlee homeowner captures woman in house; holds her for police

SUMMERSVILLE — An Oceana woman was arrested Monday morning after she was caught by the homeowner in a residence in the Craft Lane area of Summerlee Road.

The man told Fayette County Sheriff’s deputies that he was sitting in his living room and heard a noise in the rear of his house.

When he checked on the noise, he said he found the woman, identified as Lisa Beth Blankenship, 36, walking through the kitchen. Saying she “couldn’t go to jail,” she attempted to flee, but was detained at gunpoint by the homeowner and two other individuals until law enforcement arrived.

Blankenship reportedly had been staying in a wooded area near Summerlee Road for the past several weeks. Other incidents of residential burglaries have been reported in this area during this time frame, according to Fayette County Sheriff Steve Kessler.

He added that it is unknown at this time whether she is connected to any of those  burglaries, but the possibility is under investigation.

Blankenship was charged with daytime burglary and was arraigned in Fayette County Magistrate Court. Her bond was set at $10,000, according to records from Southern Regional Jail.

Kessler commented, “This incident, as with so many crimes today, appears to be related to the abuse of drugs. The deputies who responded to the scene reported that this female appeared to be under the influence of some type of controlled substance, most likely prescription pills.”

Anyone with any information concerning this incident or other criminal activity in this area is asked to contact the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office at 304-574-4216 or go to the crime tips section of the sheriff’s office website,, or through the department’s Facebook page, Fayette County Sheriff’s Department.
