Lots of festival fun this week


OAK HILL — The Taste of Oak Hill, from 6 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, will lead off Oak Leaf Festival activities this week, followed on Wednesday by a gospel sing, and the popular Family Fun Day sponsored by the Oak Hill Rotary Club on Thursday, all leading up to the festival’s main weekend.

The Taste of Oak Hill will be held at the Lewis Community Center on Central Avenue, and the gospel sing, which features Eventide, will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Jones Avenue Church of God.

The Oak Hill Rotary Club will host its Family Fun Day on Thursday, Sept. 2, from 4 to 8 p.m., behind Chase Bank, Main Street, Oak Hill.

Family Fun Day includes free admission to inflatable play stations by Fun Factory Inflatables and free hot dogs and soft drinks for all children 12 and under.

The Oak Hill Rotary Club invites all families to come out and play. For more in formation, call Becky Arthur at 304-575-6856.

Tuesday, Aug. 31



6 to 9 p.m. — Taste of Oak Hill, Lewis Community Center on Central Avenue



Wednesday, Sept. 1



7 to 9 p.m. — Gospel sing, Eventide, Church of God, Jones Avenue



Thursday, Sept. 2



4 to 8 p.m. — Family Fun Day, free inflatable fun for kids, behind Chase Bank

7 to 9:30 p.m. — Oak Hill’s Touch of Talent, Skyline Plaza, Chico’s; bring your lawn chair



Friday, Sept. 3



6 to 10 p.m. — Fun Factory Inflatables and more, $; city parking lot, Chase Bank

7 to 10 p.m. — Oak Hill’s Rockin with Center Street; BB&T Bank, Main Street

Dusk — Intermission for Parade of Lights, Main Street

10K Run and 4 Mile Walk

7 a.m. to 4 p.m. — Oak Leaf indoor flea market, sponsored by Oak Hill Lions Club; browse in comfort for treasures at the Lewis Community Center.

7 to 10 a.m. — Pancake breakfast, Lewis Community Center, Central Avenue

12 to 3 p.m. — Barbecue lunch, Lewis Community Center, Central Avenue

10 a.m. — Raising of the flag and National Anthem, BB&T Bank, Main Street (live performances throughout the day; bring your lawn chair)

10 a.m. to 4 p.m. — Craft and food vendors, downtown, Main Street

11 a.m. — Oak Leaf Parade, Main Street

12 to 2 p.m. — Plateau Medical Center Health Fair, Lewis House Lawn, Main Street

12 to 4 p.m. — West Virginia Firefighter’s Weekend, Collins football field, Central Avenue

6 to 10 p.m. — Cruise-in and street dance; opening act Elvis impersonator with headliners Hit and Run, one of West Virginia’s premier classic rock bands, performing the best hits of the ‘60s, ‘70s and ‘80s music



Sunday, Sept. 5



1 to 4 p.m. — Music by Hit and Run, sponsored by Jan Care Ambulance, Oak Hill High School, Oyler Avenue

1 to 5 p.m. — Car and bike show, Oak Hill High School, Oyler Avenue

5:30 to 8:30 p.m. — Chili Cook-off, Fayette Institute of Technology, Oyler Avenue

8:30 p.m. — Fireworks display, Oak Hill High School, Oyler Avenue (rain date: Monday, Sept. 6)
