White Oak Depot meeting Saturday

— After a very successful meeting of folks interested in the revitalization of the White Oak Depot, work will continue with another meeting this Saturday, Feb. 2 at 2 p.m. in the meeting room of the Oak Hill Fire Department.

Special guest speakers will be Cindy Whitlock and Ron Dewhitt from Tamarack, who will give the group some insights on the new artisans’ gallery that is being added to the list of facilities offered at the depot. Local artisans with many different talents who are interested in a place to share their talents and wares are willing to put the time and sweat equity required to make a local artisans’ gallery a reality in the very near future.

There is a great deal to be done in a very short time to meet the May 1 opening of the new gallery and museum highlighting the heritage of a bygone era of trains, coal and the area surrounding Oak Hill. Anyone interested in helping with physical labor, advertising, funding, website design, along with donations of time and materials will be greatly appreciated.

If you would like to be a part of the new and improved White Oak Depot and cannot attend the meeting, please call Susan Craun at 304-719-8885 or Adrienne Hughes at 304-575-9604. You can also write to the group at its Facebook page at White Oak Depot or by e-mail at
