OAK HILL —
A busy slate of activities helped Saints Peter & Paul Catholic School celebrate the annual Catholic Schools Week last week.
A 41-23 basketball win Wednesday over Beckley’s St. Francis de Sales before an active crowd at the Fayette County Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Building in Fayetteville was a big part of the week. In addition to doing battle on the court with their Raleigh County neighbors, a halftime shooting competition won by Saints Peter & Paul Principal Debbie DeViese resulted in a prize of about $430, which the school plans to donate to local leukemia sufferer Jamie Massey.
In addition to the basketball contest, classes were in competition in a variety of areas, such as Religion Bowl, besides performing community service such as collecting food for the animal shelter, throughout the week, DeViese said.
The theme for the week was “Catholic Schools Raise the Standards.”
