HealthNet earns re-accreditation

After an in-depth review of policies, procedures and practices, HealthNet Aeromedical Services has been awarded re-accreditation by the Commission on Accreditation of Medical Transport Systems (CAMTS) for its rotor wing helicopter and ground critical care transport services.

HealthNet also has been fully accredited for both ground advanced life support and basic life support at all of its eight bases. HealthNet is the only ground ambulance service provider in West Virginia to have received this national level ground service accreditation.

CAMTS is dedicated to improving the quality and safety of medical transport services through regular voluntary compliance evaluations focusing on  patient care and safety of transport environment. HealthNet’s accreditation is valid through 2015. Fewer than 30 percent of flight programs in the United States have been recognized through this difficult process.

“We are very pleased to have received full national accreditation for our entire transport program. Accreditation in the medical transport industry is not mandatory,” said Clinton Burley, HealthNet’s President and CEO.

“HealthNet’s sponsor hospitals, board of directors, leaders and staff believe that meeting these strict national standards across our entire operation is a true reflection of the high quality of service that our teams provide to the communities that we serve daily.”

HealthNet’s helicopter operation was first accredited in 1996 and has been continually re-accredited since that time. The recent survey was the first to integrate ground transport operations into the accreditation process.

HealthNet Aeromedical Services, a not-for-profit organization, was formed in 1986 and has safely completed more than 70,000 patient missions. Headquartered in Charleston, HealthNet operates eight helicopter bases in Morgantown, Ripley, Hamlin, Beckley, Buckhannon and Martinsburg in West Virginia; Portsmouth, Ohio; and Martin County, Ky. Air service is supported by strategically-placed ground transport assets. Sponsor hospitals of the HealthNet system include Cabell Huntington Hospital in Huntington, Charleston Area Medical Center in Charleston and West Virginia University Hospitals in Morgantown.
