Today's Izzy's Walk will help another childhood cancer patient

From Staff Reports

FAYETTEVILLE — FAYETTEVILLE — A special fundraising walk in memory of Izzy McManaway, the 4-year-old Fayetteville moppet who invited the world to “Keep smilin’,” even as she suffered a rare form of cancer, this year will benefit another local youngster.

All proceeds from today’s Izzy’s Walk, scheduled to begin at 10:30 a.m. Fayetteville Town Park, will go to the family of Logan Harper, a 9-year-old who also is battling cancer. A fourth grader at Divide Elementary, Logan is suffering from Hodgkin’s lymphoma.

Organizers have added a 5k race to Izzy’s Walk in 2013, as well.

Those wishing to participate can still register at the Town Park beginning at 9:30 a.m., although the size and availability of T-shirts for same-day registration will be limited. Registration fee for the walk is $25 for participants over the age of 12, and the 5k fee is $30. Donations also will be accepted at the event, which is sponsored by the GFWC Fayetteville Junior Woman’s Club.

Food, inflatables and face painting will be available at the walk, as well as a K-9 demonstration.

Following Izzy’s Walk, a balloon release is planned.

McManaway died in February 2012 following a lengthy battle with rhabdomyosarcoma, a muscle cancer.
