‘Athens Voices’ on exhibit at Concord

ATHENS — Concord University’s Arthur Butcher Art Gallery will be hosting the national juried exhibition, “Athens Voices 2013” through Oct. 25. “Athens Voices 2013” features 73 works of art completed by 48 artists. All contributors live or work near U.S. communities named Athens.

Six artists were selected to represent Athens, W.Va., in the exhibition. Concord University Art Department faculty members Jamey Biggs, Kevin Bennington, Mark Tobin Moore, and Jack Sheffler contributed works for the exhibition. Bennington’s interactive work, “In the Rock” was selected to receive one of six Merit Awards. The jurors also included pieces by Concord University Art students Sarah Haltom and Mandy Lester.

The public is invited to a reception on Oct. 17 from 5 to 7 p.m. in the Arthur Butcher Art Gallery.  Refreshments will be served and there is no charge for admission. The gallery is located in the Alexander Fine Arts Center on Concord University’s Athens campus.

“Athens Voices 2013” was organized by the Dairy Barn Arts Center in Athens, Ohio, where it was displayed in spring 2013. The exhibition was hosted by The Alabama Center for the Arts during the summer. Athens, W.Va. via Concord University is the final stop for Athens Voices 2013.
