Donations, volunteers needed for free meal

OAK HILL — The free annual Thanksgiving meal will be held at the Lewis Christian Community Center on Central Avenue on Thanksgiving day.

Carry-out meals are available from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. without reservations, but you may call ahead to reserve meals and pick-up times.

Dining room hours are from noon to 2 p.m., with no reservations needed.

Individuals needing meal deliveries should call Oak Hill Baptist Church at 304-469-3455, Oak Hill United Methodist Church at 304-469-4126 or St. Andrews Episcopal Church at 304-469-3223, with your name, phone number, number of meals requested, address and directions to your home. Deadline for requesting meal delivery is Monday, Nov. 25.

Volunteers and donations are needed. Individuals, church groups, civic organizations, students and businesses are encouraged to participate with food preparations, meal packaging, meal delivery, dining room service and cleanup. Food preparation will begin at the Lewis Center at 8 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 25 and continue through Wednesday. Volunteers are requested to bring a sharp knife and cutting board.

The free Thanksgiving meal was first started by St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church and has now grown to include hundred of volunteers from multiple churches, businesses, schools and civic organizations.

In 2012, there were 1,552 free meals distributed.

Donations may be sent to: Community Thanksgiving Meal Project, 345 Kelly Avenue, Oak Hill, WV 25901. A receipt will be mailed to you upon request.
