-- Democrat Executive Committee — The Fayette County Democratic Executive Committee will convene a regularly scheduled meeting at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 23 in the County Commission Room on the first floor of the Fayette County Courthouse. All interested Democrats are invited to attend. Agenda items will include planning for the 2012 election year. For more information, call Marion Tanner, chairperson at 304-228-5394.

-- Black History Program — The Glorious Church of God in Christ, 421 Main Street, Mt. Hope, will have a black history program on Feb. 26 at 3 p.m. The program will feature different speakers. Bishop John Grant is pastor.
-- Lenten Concerts — The Fayetteville United Methodist Church has scheduled a series of lunchtime concerts for 12:05 p.m. each Wednesday during Lent. Everyone is welcome to attend and enjoy the concerts, followed by free lunch in the Fellowship Hall. Scheduled to perform are: Feb. 29 — Don Browning and sons; March 7 — violinist Ben Casto; March 14 — harpist Heidi Morey; March 21 — Lydia Feazell and Strings; and March 28 — Rob Legg, Singing Deputy. The church is located as 120 High Street, Fayetteville.

-- World Day of Prayer — The Fayetteville Church Women United, a group of women from several Fayetteville churches, have joined together to host a World Day of Prayer event. World Day of Prayer is Friday, March 2, and on that date, the group invites the public to visit Fayetteville United Methodist Church anytime from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. to pray. Everyone is invited to attend at any time throughout the day to join in the World Day of Prayer event.
-- Guest Speaker — Bishop John Grant, pastor of Glorious Church of God in Christ of Mt. Hope, will be the guest speaker at First Christian Church at the corner of Prince Street and Fayette Street, Beckley, on Feb. 26 at 10:45 a.m. Church pastor is Rev. Don Snyder.

-- Fish Fry — Saints Peter & Paul, Oyler Avenue, Oak Hill, will host its annual fish fry each Friday of Lent (Feb. 24 through March 30) from 5 to 7 p.m. Cost is $10 for adults for a sit-down dinner or carry-out. A child’s menu is available at a reduced price. Menu items will include your choice of fried flounder and/or shrimp, baked beans, cole slaw, baked potato, dessert and drink.

‘Irregularities’ discovered in county’s testing
Three “irregularities” were reported when Fayette County Schools students took their WESTEST assessment last week, according to the Fayette County Board of Education. None of the incidents involved cheating per se, but rather posting pictures of test materials on Facebook.
