Radford honored with business award

— Judy Radford, executive director of the New River Gorge Development Authority, was honored at the 2013 Empowering Women Conference with the Women’s Business & Training Center’s “2013 Friend of Business” Award.

The Friend of Business award recognizes Radford for her tireless work for business and economic development in West Virginia over the past 24 years.

“Judy has truly been a friend of business in southern West Virginia,” said Tara Elder, director of the Women’s Business & Training Center. “Her dedication and hard work will impact this region for generations to come.”

“Long before the word, ‘empowering’ came into vogue in the business world, Judy Radford was fast at work making sure any business man or woman within her reach who needed help, got it. She’s one heck of a business friend and one stellar champion of empowering women in business.”

Radford has helped to lay a firm foundation for future growth in the region. She is a member of the task force to attract the Boy Scouts of America; a member of the “Reaching the Summit 2013” Steering Committee and chairman of its Economic Development Committee.

She was awarded the Distinguished West Virginian and received a Create West Virginia Creative Cone Award.

“The Women’s Business and Training Center’s selection of Judy Radford, executive director of NRGRDA as the 2013 “Business Friend of the Year” is a tremendous choice,” commented Bill Baker, president of the NRGRDA board and executive director of the Jobs Foundation.

“Working with Judy while serving on the NRGRDA Board of Directors for over 10 years has giving me a unique understanding of her skill and business savvy. She worked to pull four separate counties together to develop infrastructure, pursue new businesses, improve existing businesses and market the counties as a region.

“She handles this complicated task well and is a proven ‘Friend of Business.’ Judy Radford is uniquely qualified and deserving of this honor.”
