Ellisons honored at MH Jubilee

(Editor’s note: The Mount Hope Jubilee Committee submitted the following press release regarding the Jubilee’s parade marshals.)

The Mount Hope Jubilee Committee wishes to recognize Norville and Juanita Ellison, prominent citizens of Mount Hope, as the Grand Marshals for the 2012 Mount Hope Jubilee.

Mr. Ellison was born in 1922 in Ballengee, Summers County. During his childhood, he remembers with fond memories working to help with his grandparents’ farm. He graduated in 1940 from Oak Hill High School.

He attended Beckley College for one year, then joined the United States Air Force. The Air Force sent him to Texas A&M to be trained as a professional instructor. He was discharged from the Air Force in 1941.

He worked for the New River Company three different times, for a total of 35 years of service. When he retired, he was the Director of Purchasing.

Mr. Ellison and his wife moved to Mount Hope in 1954 and have lived in their present home on Madison Street for 38 years. They have been married for 61 years, and live happily together with their beloved beagle, Gypsy.

He is the oldest living member of the Mount Hope Lions Club, and has served in almost every office at one time or another. He is a past president of the Mount Hope Lions Club, served as District Governor, 29N, then was Chairman of Council of Governor for District 29.

Mr. Ellison stated he joined the Lions Club in Japan. He traveled to several places, and his wife, Juanita, traveled with him.

He is proud to have had 36 years’ perfect attendance with the Lions Club. He received the 100% District Governor’s Award, and has been awarded lifetime membership in the Lions International.

The Lions Club recently honored Mr. Ellison with a 90th birthday party at the Lions Club.

He also served two terms on the Mount Hope City Council and served on the Fayette County Zoning Commission.

Mr. Ellison states he is very humbled by our selection of him as the Grand Marshal, and by other recognitions he has received in his lifetime. Our committee feels he is very deserving of this honor.
