Opportunity For Growers meeting set

— Brian Sparks, WVU Extension agent for Fayette and Nicholas counties, and Sunday Road Baptist Church in Hico, will host an Opportunity For Growers and Natural Resources Workshop on Tuesday, Feb. 18, at 1 p.m.

The free workshop presents a great opportunity for individuals, landowners, farmers, and gardeners who are interested in learning more about starting an agricultural enterprise in the region. The workshop will be focused on programs that maintain, develop, improve and protect forestry and agriculture.

Those in attendance will also learn about existing markets for West Virginia-grown products, produce, and livestock.

Workshop presenters will include representatives from WVU Extension Service, The Value Chain Cluster Initiative, USDA Farm Service Agency, USDA Natural Resource Conservation Service, West Virginia Department of Agriculture, WVU Small Farm Center, Fayette County Board of Education Food Service, Division of Forestry, Southern Soil Conservation District, Fayette County Beekeepers Association and the Fayette County Farmers Market

To help foster the creation of new agricultural enterprises, representatives from funding organizations including The Sustainable Agriculture Research and Education Program (SARE) and Natural Capital Investment Fund will be in attendance.
