New River offers metal art class

GHENT — New River Community and Technical College will offer a unique metal art course starting in March at the welding lab at the Advanced Technology Center in Ghent. The six-week course will start on March 4 and will meet from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Monday evenings through April 15.

The metal art class combines metalworking with imagination in a safe and fun environment. Students will use an oxy-fuel torch, plasma cutter and weld basics in one of a variety of welding disciplines. Participants will produce a project to take home.

The instructor is New River welding faculty member Brad Veneri. He is an American Welding Society Certified Welding Educator as well as Certified Assistant Welding Inspector and has more than 20 years of welding experience. Veneri attended WVU at Parkersburg, where he earned an associate degree in welding technology.

The tuition includes materials, use of machinery and the use of some personal protective equipment.  Each student will leave with basic cutting and welding knowledge as well as the know-how to transform ideas from imagination into metal.

The metal art course is open to those of any age wanting to learn a new skill. Class size is limited to 10 participants and pre-registration is required.

Call the New River Office of Workforce Education at 304-883-2446 to for more information or to register.
