White Oak Depot: Artisan gallery opening Saturday

OAK HILL — The community is invited to the grand opening of the White Oak Depot Artisan Gallery and Heritage Center Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The gallery opening will highlight handicrafts from across the region, live music, food and artist demonstrations.

The depot and museum will be open throughout the day for guests to learn about local train history as well as local arts.

The group will have a ribbon-cutting at 1 p.m. followed by live music by Valley Bluegrass Band from 2 to 4 p.m.

Valley Bluegrass Band has been a favorite in the area, playing festivals like Hinton Train Days, since 2005. The band features Loretta Cox, Larry Cox, Eddie Cales, Tommy Crigger and Dave McKinney.

In addition to history, music, art and fun, a local artisan will be creating a chainsaw sculpture on site and other artists will be demonstrating their craftsmanship.

After Saturday’s grand opening, the new Artisan Gallery will be open Wednesdays through Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and until 7 p.m. after Memorial Day as long as weather permits.

The Depot will also host, as interest swells, blacksmithing and woodworking classes as well as artist demonstrations.

The White Oak Depot Artisan Gallery and Heritage Center is located on Central Avenue in Oak Hill, behind the Lewis Community Foundation Christian Community Center.
