Deadline June 1 for Coda Kidz

The sound of music and children’s laughter are in the air as budding young musicians, ages 5 to 12,  discover their musical talent in the fun and innovative summer program, Coda Kidz.

Coda Mountain Academy of Music proudly offers its third Coda Kidz Day Camp from June 18 to June 23 for children ages 5 to 12. Half-day classes and group activities culminate with a concert at the end of the week. Students are accepted with little or no experience and can learn rhythm instruments, ukulele or guitar.

Two new faculty members are coming on board allowing Coda to open exciting Orff-Schulwerk classes and a children’s choir. Students who already play violin, viola or cello are invited to learn bluegrass or beginning chamber music. Everyone enjoys music theory and history, games and hearing accomplished musicians perform. Instruments available are violin, viola, cello, ukulele, guitar, rhythm instruments such as hand drums, bells, tambourines and Boomwhackers.

Coda 2013 is proud to introduce the Orff-Schulwerk Technique taught by a professionally trained Schulwerk instructor. The technique is a total approach to fostering creativity and conveying musical knowledge and skills using rhymes, playful chants, clapping, movement and keeping a beat on anything at hand from wooden xylophones to metal glockenspiels.

With this broad and engaging exposure to music, including the exciting addition of Orff-Schulwerk classes, improvisation and composition start students on a lifetime of knowledge and pleasure through their personal musical experience.

“The short and long term results of these summer camps are incredible,” says Esther Morey, director. “Students gain confidence and a passion for their music which often leads to year round involvement through private instruction, school bands, or wonderful organizations like the New River Youth Symphony and Chorus.”

Classes will be held at Fayetteville Christ Fellowship from 9 a.m. to noon June 18-22 with a concert on June 23 at 3 p.m. Tuition for the camp is $155 and the deadline to sign up is June 1. Apply online at www.codamountain.com., or download an application and send to: Coda Mountain Academy of Music, PO Box 615, Fayetteville, WV 25840.
