The Initiative

The Citizens Conservation Corps of West Virginia, in oversight and coordination of the Reaching the Summit Community Service Initiative, has announced the selection of more than 350 projects to be performed during the 2013 Days of Service that will take place during the Boy Scouts National Jamboree in July.

The total number of service projects is expected to exceed 300,000 hours of volunteer labor throughout the nine-county region.

TIMELINE

Important milestones for The Initiative

Timeline subject to change

— April 30, 2012:  Project Application Deadline (30-day grace period granted March 31, 2012)  

— Spring 2012: Ongoing education & planning to strengthen project applications and mobilization of Committees  

—  July 9-19, 2012: Boy Scouts of America & CCCWV met w/County Champions to review & discuss project submissions  

— August 1, 2012: Deadline for all Project Site Visits to be completed by CCCWV Review Team  

— August/September 2012: Pilot/Demonstration Projects to be conducted i.e. “dress rehearsal” on a smaller scale for the purpose of experiencing and preparing for the 2013 Days of Service projects   

— AmeriCorps NCCC Team Arrival: August 9, -September 28, 2012 (performed labor at demo projects)  

— Boy Scouts of America Review/Approval process of the service projects to be completed by October 8, 2012

— September 24 - October 8, 2012: Champions’ Project Prioritization meetings to discuss the approval process, project status/ranking prior to Public Announcement of 2013 Day of Service Projects   

— October 15, 2012: Champions to announce their projects in each county today.  

— October 16 - October 31, 2012: Comment/Review Period following Project Announcement reg Project Selection Process for transparency purposes (Contact JAK Kincaid at 304-254-9196 regarding any & all project inquiries)  

— October 31, 2012: BSA to have project dates assigned for each project per county for the five (5) Days of Service  

— Oct 2012- June 2013: Final preparation, project development, and fine tuning of all project plans  

— January 15, 2013: Deadline to have Project Mangers assigned to all projects (2 PMs needed per project)  

— April 15, 2013: Cut-off date to have all “project contingent/ pending items” resolved (Projects chosen to move forward contingent upon funding being awarded, or other pertinent/applicable deadlines (legality, property, etc) will no longer be “in development” phase nor chosen for 2013 if all pertinent issues have not been resolved  

— April 15, 2013: Deadline for all Project Volunteers to be selected for the 2013 Days of Service  

— June 26, 2013: Prep work preceding Days of Service to begin  

— Days of Service: July 17, 18, 19, 22, and 23, 2013  

— Post follow-up project work, punch list, overall assessment & debriefing (CCCWV, Project Sponsor, AmeriCorps NCCC, other)
