From Staff Reports
OAK HILL —
The free annual Thanksgiving meal will be held at the Lewis Community Foundation’s Christian Community Center on Central Avenue in Oak Hill on Thanksgiving Day.
Carry-out meals are available from 11 a.m. until noon only without reservations, but you may call ahead and reserve meals and pick-up times. Dining room hours are noon until 2 p.m., with no reservations needed.
Individuals needing meal delivery should call St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church at 304-469-3223, Oak Hill United Methodist Church at 304-469-4126 or Oak Hill Baptist Church at 304-469-3455, with your name, phone number, number of meals needed, address and directions to your home. Deadline for requesting meal delivery is Friday, Nov. 16.
Volunteers and donations are needed. Individuals, church groups, youth groups, civic organizations and students are encouraged to participate in food preparation, meal packaging, meal delivery, dining room service and clean up. Food preparation will begin at the Lewis Center at 8 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 19, and continue through Wednesday. Volunteers are asked to bring a sharp knife and cutting board.
“Giving back for all your blessings is a rewarding experience felt by all our volunteers, which consisted of 246 people last year. There were 1,452 free meals distributed last year, which included deliveries, carry out and dining room,” a volunteer said in a press release announcing the annual project. The free Thanksgiving meal was first started by St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church and now has grown to include volunteers from several churches and groups and to provide service to those from around the county.
