Deadline Monday for unemployment apps

— West Virginians who live in Fayette, Kanawha, Nicholas, and Raleigh counties have until Monday to file a claim for Disaster Unemployment Assistance under FEMA Disaster Number 4071.

In September, Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin and WorkForce West Virginia Acting Executive Director Russell Fry announced that West Virginians living in those counties who were unemployed due to the severe storms and straight-line winds that occurred beginning June 29 may be eligible for disaster unemployment.

Disaster Unemployment Assistance is intended for those who are not eligible for benefits under a state’s regular unemployment insurance program.

Farmers, the self-employed and others who are denied regular unemployment insurance benefits may now be eligible for Disaster Unemployment Assistance.

Funds for this program are provided by the federal government and do not come from the state employer payroll taxes used to finance regular unemployment benefits.

West Virginians who need information about how to file a claim for Disaster Unemployment Assistance may contact any WorkForce West Virginia office. Locations are available online at www.workforcewv.org or by calling 1-800-252-5627.
