You should always give God your best

During inclement weather and physical hindrances we are often unable to attend church. However we must always recognize that church attendance is a privilege. The singing, prayers, fellowship and teaching of God’s Word are just what we need for the week ahead.

The Nashville Banner once reported that 81-year-old Ella Craig had perfect attendance in Sunday school for 20 years. That’s 1,040 Sundays! The article then raised these questions:

1. Doesn’t Mrs. Craig ever have company on Sunday to keep her away from church?

2. Doesn’t she ever have headaches, belly aches, colds or tired feelings?

3. Doesn’t she ever take a weekend trip?

4. Doesn’t she ever just sleep late on Sunday morning?

5. Doesn’t she ever get her feelings hurt by someone in the church?

The article concluded by asking, “What’s the matter with Mrs. Craig?” The answer? Nothing at all.

But if we are never in church on Sunday when we can be, there is something wrong between us and God. We stand to learn a lot from Mrs. Craig when it comes to us pleasing God more than ourselves and mere man. Besides, if each week we make it our goal on Sunday to nourish our soul, God’s help for the tasks that we face, we are sure to receive by His Grace.

Would you offer your boss/business the effort you gave God last week? Who are you most interested in pleasing? Yourself? Your spouse? Your boss? Or God? (Malachi 1:7-8)
