Scarbro Garden Club celebrates 62 years

SCARBRO — The Scarbro Garden Club held a monthly meeting on Feb. 21. Eleven members and four guests enjoyed a Dutch treat dinner at the Café One Ten in Oak Hill.

Donna Gay Hendrickson conducted a short business session. Plans were discussed on the lunch menu that will be served at the upcoming flower show school that will be held in Oak Hill in April. Also discussed were the club’s two community projects, painting a gazebo and planting summer flowers at the Chamber of Commerce in Oak Hill.

The Scarbro Garden Club was organized 62 years ago, on Feb. 15, 1952, and Federated on Aug. 16, 1952. Betty Gay (Miller) Legg has been a member of the club for 45 years. Her late sister, Beulah (Smith) Smith, was a charter member. Betty’s daughter, Donna Gay Hendrickson, is the present president of the Scarbro Garden Club.

There are two other mother/daughter memberships in the club: Peggy Jordan and her daughter, Sherry Miller, and member Alice Osborne and her daughters, Caroline Toney and Beth Burdette.
