Fayette FOP kicks off annual Shop with a Cop event

The 2013 Shop with a Cop program is accepting applications for Fayette County children who want to participate in the program.

Sponsored by Fayette County Memorial Lodge #118 of the Fraternal Order of Police, the annual program allows underprivileged Fayette children to go Christmas shopping at the Fayetteville Walmart with a police officer.

To qualify, kids must be between the ages of three and 12 and must not be receiving assistance from any other program.

Certain family income guidelines must also be met.

Police ask that community members nominate eligible children in Fayette County by calling 304-731-8438. An answering service will take the nominations, according to Lodge #118 President Chris A. Young.

The parents of children who are selected to participate will receive a written notice in the mail notifying them of their scheduled shopping experience at Walmart.

Those wishing to donate to Shop with a Cop may contact Young for more information.

All of the money received is spent in Fayette County, and the amount of donations determines the number of children who may shop.
