A Fayette County man died from injuries he sustained in a motor vehicle accident in Piney View Wednesday evening, according to the Raleigh County Sheriff’s Department.

The accident was called into the Raleigh County EOC just after 6 p.m., reporting a single-vehicle crash on W.Va. 41 on Stanaford Road, authorities said.

The driver, David K. Walker, 51, of Prince, was killed upon impact after his GMC 2500 pickup truck left the roadway. Police say Walker overcorrected and lost control; the truck then skidded across both lanes of traffic, struck an embankment and flipped several times, ejecting Walker from the vehicle.

Preliminary investigation indicates that excessive speed was a factor in the accident, police said.

Bradley-Prosperity and Mount Hope fire departments responded, as well as General Ambulance Service.

The crash was investigated by Deputy J.B. Grose, who was assisted by Lt. J.E. Bare and Sgt. W.J. Crist.
