Fire damages OH business

By Matthew Hill

An early Monday morning fire on July 10 damaged an Oak Hill business and is under investigation by the state fire marshal’s office.

According to Oak Hill Assistant Fire Chief Bob Begley, firefighters from Fayetteville, Mount Hope and Oak Hill responded about 2:33 a.m. to the blaze that significantly damaged the building at 231 Main St. The one-story structure reportedly houses law offices for James Billings and James Love IV.

Although no one was in the building when the alarm went off and no firefighters were injured, the heavy smoke and flames caused significant heat, smoke and water damage throughout the building, Begley said. The fire itself was contained to one room and a portion of the attic.

It took firefighters about 20 minutes to bring the blaze under control, he added. Investigators from the fire marshal’s office remained on the scene until late into the afternoon. Assistant state fire marshal Tony Domingo is heading up the inquiry.
