Jean Angel
Lois Ivajean “Jean” Angel, 82, of Parkersburg, died Feb. 6, 2008, at her residence.
Born June 1, 1925, at Mount Hope, she was the daughter of the late Curtis B. and Sadie Merritt Mays. Jean also was preceded in death by her first husband, Clyde W. Moon, in 1981; and a brother, Jack Mays.
Jean was a homemaker and a member of Grace Gospel Church.
Surviving: her husband, Pastor Bill M. Angel; stepdaughters and their husbands, Janice and Mike Murphy of Piedmont, S.C., and Barbara and Gary Martin of Washington, W.Va.; a grandson and his wife, Eric and Jill Martin of Gallipolis, Ohio; great-grandchildren, Isaac and Landon Martin; a brother, Galen Mays of Circleville, Ohio; sisters and their husbands, Betty and Ted Phillips of Beckley, Shirley and Junior Pittman of Beckley, Midge and Bob North of Knoxville, Tenn., and Sharon and Bill Rhodes of Ocala, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral service was Feb. 9 at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, Parkersburg, with Pastor Mike Allen officiating. Interment followed at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley.
The family requests that donations be made to House Calls Hospice or to the Grace Gospel Church Missions Fund, Route 5, Box 440, Parkersburg, WV 26101.
Ruby M. Cook
Ruby M. Cook, 79, of Kincaid, died Feb. 9, 2008, at Bowers Hospice House, Beckley.
Born June 2, 1928, at Page, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Laura Wall. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Charles E. Cook; and sons, Charles L. Cook, James F. Cook, Mark C. Cook, and C.E. Cook.
Ruby resided at the home of her daughter, Brenda K. Cruikshank, and spent the last six years of glorious life in devoted service to the Pentecostal Holiness Faith as a member of the Christian Revival Center in Robson.
Surviving: her children, Nathan P. Cook, Brenda K. Cruikshank, Judith A. Lucas, Betty J. Kelly, Kitty S. Francis, and Tamela C. McClung.
Funeral services were Feb. 12 at High Lawn Funeral Home, Oak Hill, with Pastor Dan Smith officiating. She was laid to rest at High Lawn Memorial Park, Oak Hill.

Willie Dileonardo
Willie Dileonardo, 73, of Fayetteville, died Feb. 5, 2008.
Born Nov. 18, 1934, at Tamroy, he was the son of the late John and Nancy Dileonardo. He also was preceded in death by his brother, Nick.
Willie was an outstanding football player and an avid supporter of Fayetteville football and basketball teams.
He served in the Air Force and was a retired business owner.
Service was Feb. 9 at High Lawn Funeral Chapel, Oak Hill, with Father Paul Yuenger officiating. Burial followed at High Lawn Memorial Park.

Douglas Ray Fox
Douglas Ray Fox, 65, of Patterson Mountain, Meadow Bridge, died Feb. 8, 2008, at Charleston General Hospital, following a short illness.
Born Sept. 28, 1942, at Crickmer, he was the son of the late Marvin Ray “Rube” and Mary Kathleen Martin Fox. He also was preceded in death by his wife, Sandra Kay Burdette Fox, in 2004.
Mr. Fox was a disabled truck driver and a grandfather.
Surviving: sons, Steven Ray Fox of Meadow Bridge, Douglas Keith Fox and wife, Sue Ann, of Mt. Jackson, Va., and Chad Ashley Fox of Meadow Bridge; sisters, Freda Owens of Burnside, Ky., Sue “Kitten” Patterson of Meadow Bridge, and Deana Hanshew of Prince George, Va.; brothers, Tracy Fox of Mason, Ohio, Warren Fox of Danese, Fairlie Fox of Backus Mountain, and Garlin Fox of Danese; grandchildren, Dustin Keith Fox, Kortney Megan Fox, and Ashley Laura-Elaine Fox; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Leona S. ‘Sue’ Grose
Leona S. “Sue” Grose, 76, of Wooster, Ohio, formerly of Ramsey, died Feb. 3, 2008, at Orville Point Nursing Center, Orville, Ohio.
Born March 4, 1931, at Ramsey, she had been a resident of Wooster since 1978.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Steve Grose.
Sue was a devoted homemaker. She enjoyed puzzles and was an avid reader.
Surviving: her sons, James (Ada) Grose of Orville and Gary Grose of Missouri; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and three step-great-grandchildren.
Graveside service was Feb. 7 at Richmond Chapel Church Cemetery, Hico.

Charles Hanson
Charles “Charlie” Lester Hanson, 75, died peacefully Feb. 6, 2008, at the Heartland Nursing Home in Rainelle.
Born April 4, 1932, at Landisburg, Charlie was the son of the late Lester and Myrtle Hanson. He also was preceded in death by his son, Dwayne Adkins-Hanson, and his sister, Georgia Hanson Estep
Charlie spent the last 27 years of his life in a nursing home, first at Ansted Nursing Home and then Heartland Nursing Home in Rainelle, a place he called home. He was well known in Rainelle, where he traveled around town in his motorized wheelchair, talking with everyone who would give him a minute.
He waited anxiously every year to visit with the Rolling Thunder motorcycle riders as they traveled through Rainelle on their way to Washington. It was said that Charles never met a stranger that he did not know; he loved people, gardening, and he loved Rainelle.
Surviving: a number of nephews and nieces; his sister, Ruth Hanson Bess of Hugheston, and Landisburg; and his brother, Douglas Hanson of Indian Wells, Calif.
Services was held at Wallace and Wallace Funeral Home in Rainelle, Feb. 9, with Pastor Gary Tucker officiating. Burial followed at the Campbell Cemetery (Smailes) in Landisburg.

Opal Skaggs
Opal S. Skaggs, 84, of Fayetteville, died Feb. 10, 2008, at the Hidden Valley Health Care Center, Oak Hill, following an extended illness.
Born Aug. 14, 1923, in Fayette County, she was the daughter of the late Luther Smith Sr. and Isabella Miller Smith. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Clay Skaggs; a son, Michael Skaggs; and a brother, John Smith.
Mrs. Skaggs was a retired teacher’s aide for the Fayette County Schools for several years. She was a former member of the Emmanuel Baptist Church.
Surviving: her son, Kevin Skaggs and wife, Jackie, of Charleston; brothers, Luther Smith Jr. and wife, Norma, of Lansing, James Smith and wife, Judy, of Michigan, and Lawrence Smith and wife, Doris, of Indiana; and sisters, Thelma Gaye Bennett and Genevieve Bennett, both of Fayetteville, and Edith Mardis and husband, Marion, of Hico.
Family and friends will meet at the funeral home at 1:30 p.m. before the funeral on Wednesday.

Patricia ‘Pat’ Skaggs
Patricia “Pat” Skaggs, 68, of Ansted, died Feb. 4, 2008, in Annapolis, Md., following a short illness.
Born Oct. 5, 1939, in Woonsocket, R.I., she was the daughter of the late Wilfred and Pauline Loya Blanchard. She also was preceded in death by brothers, Joseph, Ernest and Wilfred Blanchard Jr.; and sisters, Lorraine Coger and Karol Corba.
She was a homemaker. Pat was a member of Lovers Leap Baptist Church at Ansted. She served as a Sunday school clerk and volunteered at the Ansted Ministry Center.
Service was Feb. 9 at Chapel of Rest at Restlawn Memory Gardens, Victor, with Pastor Stephen Fridenmaker officiating.

Naoma Lee Smith
Naomi “Lee” Smith, 62, of Oak Hill, died Feb. 7, 2008, at Bowers Hospice House, Beckley.
Born March 16, 1945, at Oak Hill, she was the daughter of the late Bubbie Erskine and Jessie Ethel Grant Smith.
Ms. Smith was a former business owner.
Surviving: daughters, Dianna Calfee and her husband, Corbett, of Princeton and Melissa Fredericks and her husband, Kurt, of Oak Hill; a son, Blaine Smith and his wife, Shawnette, of Mount Hope; a brother, Burl Smith and his wife, Brenda, of Oak Hill; and grandchildren, Amaya Smith, Alexis Fredericks, Jordan Calfee, Brandon Calfee and Aiden Smith.
Funeral service was Feb. 10 at High Lawn Funeral Chapel, Oak Hill, with Pastor Phillip Copney officiating. Burial followed at High Lawn Memorial Park, Oak Hill.

Phyllis Curry Cottle Spears, 80, of Madison, Fla., died Feb. 8, 2008, as a result of an automobile accident in Thomasville, Ga.

Sterling R. Wright
Sterling R. Wright, 73, of Pax, died Feb. 7, 2008, after a brief illness.
Born March 13, 1934, at Jordan Mines, Va., he was the son of the late Elmer and Berta Wright. He also was preceded in death by brothers, Ersil, Merrill and Denton Wright; and sisters, Berta Wright and Evelyn Wright.
Raised in Pax, he lived in Akron, Ohio, over 40 years, returning to his childhood home in retirement.
Mr. Wright was employed by Pepsi-Cola Bottlers Inc. of Akron for 32 years, and was a member of Teamsters Union Local 348 in Akron.
Surviving: his wife of almost 50 years, Barbara of Norton, Ohio; daughters, Debra of Pax and Susan of Norton; sons, Ernie (Cookie) of Clifton Forge, Va., David of Norton, Daniel of Pax and Steven (Kaci) of Medina, Ohio; sisters, Reba Callaway of Pax, Ruby Folvin of New Lebanon, Ohio, and Rachel of Pax; a brother, Earl (Barb) of Vass Branch; sister-in-law, Madeline of Pax; six grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and dozens of nieces, nephews and cousins.
Service was Feb. 11 at Tyree Funeral Home, Mount Hope, with the Rev. Robert G. Ayers officiating. Burial was at Wright Family Cemetery, Pax.
